Plugins

Plugins, extensions and mods for coding agents

Most coding agents now let you package skills, slash commands, subagents, hooks and MCP servers into one installable unit. Claude Code calls them plugins, Gemini CLI calls them extensions, Kiro calls them powers and Letta calls them mods. Here is what each one can bundle, which manifest it uses and how you install one.

Reviewed Oct 9, 2026. A dash means the docs do not list that building block; a question mark means we could not confirm it.

Worth knowing

  • Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, Copilot CLI and Factory all use a plugin.json manifest in a vendor folder, and several can add your own marketplace.
  • Qwen Code can install converted Claude Code plugins and Gemini CLI extensions.
  • Plugins can run hooks and MCP servers on your machine. Install them only from sources you trust, and read the hooks before enabling them.
  • Need just one capability? An Agent Skill or an MCP server may be all you need.
