What the Aiven MCP server can do

Authentication

Hosted server at https://mcp.aiven.live/mcp prompts you to authorize with your Aiven account. The local stdio server (npx -y mcp-aiven) needs an Aiven API token in AIVEN_TOKEN. Access follows your Aiven user permissions.

Options

  • ?read_only=true (or AIVEN_READ_ONLY=true) exposes only read-only tools
  • ?write_allowlist= (or AIVEN_WRITE_ALLOWLIST) re-enables named write tools in read-only mode
  • ?services_scope= (or AIVEN_SERVICES_SCOPE) limits tools to all, core, pg, kafka, application or integrations
  • Marketplace customers add /aws, /azure or /gcp to the URL so sign-in uses the right console
  • AIVEN_ALLOW_SECRETS=true exposes aiven_service_connection_info, which returns live credentials
  • Local stdio server from npm (mcp-aiven), Node.js 18+

Good to know

  • Aiven warns the server can create, modify and delete services and data, such as dropping databases or deleting services
  • aiven_docs_search is only on the hosted server
  • aiven_service_connection_info puts passwords, connection URIs and certificates into the conversation when enabled
