What the InfluxDB 3 MCP server can do

Authentication

Self-hosted stdio server. Set INFLUX_DB_PRODUCT_TYPE (core, enterprise, cloud-serverless, cloud-dedicated or clustered) plus INFLUX_DB_INSTANCE_URL and INFLUX_DB_TOKEN; Cloud Dedicated and Clustered can instead or also use INFLUX_DB_MANAGEMENT_TOKEN, with INFLUX_DB_CLUSTER_ID and INFLUX_DB_ACCOUNT_ID for Cloud Dedicated.

Options

  • INFLUX_MCP_TOOL_PROFILE=readonly hides write, admin, token and host-level tools; readwrite allows writes; operator (default) exposes everything
  • Run with npx -y @influxdata/influxdb3-mcp-server, a local build, or Docker
  • Resources: influx-config, influx-status, influx-databases, context-file; prompts: list-databases, check-health, load-context
  • MCP_LOG_TOOL_CALLS=false turns off tool-call telemetry; MCP_LOG_BACKEND=file writes it to a file

Good to know

  • The default operator profile includes delete_database and regenerate_operator_token, which are irreversible
  • Token tools differ by edition: admin and resource tokens are Core or Enterprise only, cloud_* token tools are Cloud Dedicated or Clustered only
  • Tool-call telemetry is on by default and writes JSON lines to stderr (no tokens or query text)
  • Requires Node.js 20.11 or newer
