Authentication

SerpApi API key, sent as Authorization: Bearer <key> (recommended) or in the URL path as https://mcp.serpapi.com/<key>/mcp for clients that cannot set headers. Connecting and listing tools works without a key; searches need one.

Options

  • One search tool covers all SerpApi engines (default engine google_light)
  • Engine parameter schemas as MCP resources at serpapi://engines
  • output: md returns Markdown to cut tokens; mode: compact trims JSON
  • search_table and search_dashboard are opt-in MCP Apps tools for hosts that render interactive UI
  • Claude Desktop extension (.mcpb) and self-hosting are available

  • A key in the URL path can show up in request logs, so prefer the header
  • Searches use your SerpApi plan quota and can hit rate limits
