What the SigNoz MCP server can do

Authentication

SigNoz Cloud uses OAuth 2.1 (Dynamic Client Registration with PKCE), where you enter your instance URL and a service account API key. Clients without OAuth can send SIGNOZ-API-KEY and X-SigNoz-URL headers. Self-hosted stdio takes SIGNOZ_URL and SIGNOZ_API_KEY.

Options

  • Self-host with a release binary, go install or the signoz/signoz-mcp-server Docker image. Stdio is recommended, HTTP is also supported.
  • Also exposes read-only MCP resources under signoz:// URIs.
  • Self-hosted settings include TRANSPORT_MODE, MCP_SERVER_PORT (default 8000), LOG_LEVEL and optional OAuth.

Good to know

  • Using the wrong Cloud region causes authentication failures.
  • Only Admin users can create API keys.
  • Several tools need recent SigNoz versions (dashboard tools v0.135.0+, alert rule tools v0.120.0+). Older deployments may return HTTP 404.
  • Docker always runs in HTTP mode.
  • signoz_check_metric_usage takes up to 50 metric names per call, and signoz_get_top_metrics returns the top 100.
