Rules file converter
Write a rule once and use it in every coding agent your team runs. Paste a rule in any agent's format and get the file path and frontmatter for 11 targets, keeping when the rule applies. Formats checked against each vendor's docs on 2026-10-19. Nothing leaves your browser.
Scope: Only for matching files (**/*.kt, **/*.kts)

Save as: .cursor/rules/android-compose.mdc
--- globs: **/*.kt, **/*.kts alwaysApply: false --- - Hoist state: composables take state and event lambdas as parameters; screen state lives in a ViewModel. - Expose UI state from the ViewModel as StateFlow and collect it with collectAsStateWithLifecycle(). - Wrap state in remember, or rememberSaveable when it must survive configuration changes. - Never launch coroutines or do I/O directly in a composable body; use LaunchedEffect, event callbacks or viewModelScope. - Every reusable composable takes modifier: Modifier = Modifier as its first optional parameter and applies it to the root. - Use Material 3 components and MaterialTheme colors and typography instead of hard-coded values. - Put user-facing text in string resources and read it with stringResource(). - Use lazy layouts (LazyColumn, LazyRow) with stable keys for lists. - Add @Preview functions for new screens, and run the Gradle build and tests before finishing.

How scope maps between agents
| When it applies | Cursor .mdc | Claude Code | GitHub Copilot | Kiro | Antigravity / Devin |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Always on | alwaysApply: true | no paths | applyTo: "**" | inclusion: always | trigger: always_on |
| Matching files | globs | paths | applyTo | inclusion: fileMatch | trigger: glob |
| Agent decides | description | (use a Skill) | description (VS Code) | inclusion: auto | trigger: model_decision |
| Manual | no description, no globs | (use a Skill) | neither (VS Code) | inclusion: manual | trigger: manual |
AGENTS.md, GEMINI.md and Codex have no frontmatter: put the file in the folder it applies to. Zed reads only the first instruction file it finds, so a .cursorrules file wins over AGENTS.md there.
